Will My furniture Fit into my property?

Before purchasing any furniture items from one of our stores, we would always recommend measuring first. This includes the item of furniture you wish to purchase but also the areas your furniture will need to pass through to reach its destination.

Measuring most furniture items follows the same principle, Width, Depth & Height

For this guide we have chosen a sofa. This is most common item of furniture purchased from our stores and can be the trickiest to fit into properties.

Before visiting our stores to make a purchase, first measure your property. This includes access points, hallways, stair width including handrails, slopes in ceiling height and the access door to the allocated room.

Here we have shown 8 separate areas to measure, your home may have more areas to take into consideration

Now you’re ready to make a purchase

When choosing your items of furniture, it’s important to check the measurements of the item against the measurements from your home.

When measuring a sofa, ensure you take the Width, Depth and Height.

It’s also important to measure your sofa diagonally, Diagonal Depth in case it requires taken through the door on an angle.

This measuring principle applies to most items of Furniture

(Wardrobe shown below)

 Getting Items Upstairs

If your furniture requires taken upstairs, measure the width (A) of the staircase at its narrowest point, and height of ceiling (B) remember to take any handrails or light fixtures into account.

If this distance is wider than the height of your sofa then it should fit. If you have a bannister and the sofa needs to be lifted over it, check that the distance between the bannister and the ceiling is greater than the depth of the sofa. Once at the top of the stairs, make sure there is enough room on the landing to manoeuvre your sofa into the right room.

Do your items need to go in a Lift?

Does your building have a lift that will need to be used?

If so, measure the open-door height, width, and the depth of the lift to make sure
it will fit inside. If the dimensions are greater than the width, height
and depth of your sofa, your item should fit.

Navigating your Hallway and Internal doors

You will need to make sure your sofa can get into the room that you’d like
it to sit in. Measure the width of any areas that the sofa must pass
through, such as hallways and internal doors at their narrowest points.

Remember to take note of possible obstructions such as radiators,
shelving, skirting boards and light fittings. As long as the width at
the narrowest points are greater than the height of your sofa,
then you’re good to go.

Getting your item into your Home.

Open your door as wide as possible and measure the distance
between the outer edge of the door to the inner edge of your
doorframe at its narrowest point.

Compare the width of your
doorframe with the height of your sofa allowing some wiggle
room either side. This will determine if the sofa will go through
on its side. If the door width is greater than the height
of your sofa, then it should fit.
