Our history Community Transport originated in Birmingham in the early 1960s, when Rev Bryan Scrivener found his ex-Army Land Rover in high demand for removals work; storing donated items in his front room and distributing them to families on low incomes. The organisation was registered as a charity in 1966 and passenger services for voluntary groups using minibuses quickly followed. Community Transport or "CT" is the original Community Transport, a pioneer in door-to-door services for people with physical disabilities and developed ring and ride services in the West Midlands and Greater Manchester. The charities' divisions are CT Passenger, CT Furniture and CT Training services. Each division offers services at affordable and competitive prices. CT Passenger provides a caring specialist transport service to improve people's quality of life, delivering services in several local authority areas. Minibus hire is also available to community organisations looking to hire accessible and non-accessible minibuses for group travel arrangements. CT Furniture collects, sells and delivers second-hand furniture to individuals on low incomes and at transitional stages in their lives. The Charity aims to encourage recycling and reduce fly-tipping, by collecting donated furniture and electrical items, free of charge from residents. Furniture is available to purchase across stores in Birmingham, Bilston, Blyth, Newcastle, Peterlee and West Bromwich and online. CT Training provides support to organisations and their staff by delivering quality transport training to enable them to achieve certifications and deliver quality transport to their own service users. The Charity aims to bring people and opportunities together to transform lives, build better communities, and build a sustainable and enterprising organisation that works with local communities to meet local needs. At CT, a significant proportion of our workforce are volunteers, which means we are helping many individuals increase their confidence and skill so they can gain the experience needed to find employment in the future, as well as help individuals to socialise and interact with others daily. We work with a variety of individuals and partners to ensure we deliver services to a high quality consistently.
