Jo Sugden's Overview of Community Transport Salford
I'm Jo Sugden, manager the Salford project of Community Transport, my involvement goes back to 1991 and as you can imagine during this time I've seen some changes! CT Salford has a long history of providing transport for the residents of Salford and there have in the past been many exciting and innovative services including Women's Safe Transport, Ethel the Playbus, Prison Visiting and Mobility Shopping.
CT Salford has been meeting the needs of local residents for over 25 years during which time we have built up strong local links and developed extensive partnership working with others who recognise the value of what we do. In addition we benefit from guidance from our active Local Partnership Committee which has a pivotal role in identifying local needs in relation to the provision of transport facilities, the implementation of our social inclusion and green agenda and the improvement of passenger safety by supplying training both internally and externally.
Most of our services, whether it is collecting furniture or taking a group out on a day trip, have been carried out by our loyal team of volunteers, some of who have been with us from the very beginning. However as time has gone on and funding trends have changed so have our ways. Where possible we aim to generate funds from our own activities but by the nature of our work and the resources of our users we also need external support. In Salford we benefit from funding from Salford City Council, the Greater Manchester PTE, (Local Link and CT Trust Fund), as well as significant support from Lower Kersal and Charlestown New Deal for Communities and the Greater Manchester Community Transport Operator's Forum.
Our vision of the future is to build upon the partnerships we have established so that we can provide further socially integrated transport solutions for the benefit of the community, expand our social inclusion work in furniture re-use, support the green agenda and look to supplying a broader level of training to NVQ level in areas such as retail, warehousing, furniture renovation, distribution and driving.
