Highlights of the last year - 2004/5
In the West End, the partnership with Newcastle NDC goes from strength to strength. By March 2005 at the end of just 2 years of operation, we had funds in a high interest account to underpin the following year's operations and complement a reduced grant. In fact, we're already well on the way to financing our work in 2006/7 when NDC funding ends.
The involvement of NDC residents has been crucial in identifying new opportunities for development. Plans are already well advanced to bring back passenger operations to this side of the city, as well as for a furniture refurbishment project, a move to a long term site, and PCV D1 driver training.
The success of the 2 projects is based largely on the contributions made by volunteers and New Deal trainees. We have an excellent reputation with training providers and Job Centre Plus who all know that time at the "Community Furniture Service" is an investment in new skills and work experience.
